Keep flying high

Aeroplane been doing a lot of remixes recently. Some are great, some sound a little more confusing. But one thing they have and that is a distinctive mark. By paying a visit to the more obscure sounds of 80's balearic, they manage to always deliver something fresh, and thats what a remix should be about, something as much far away as possible from the original work.

A quick search "aeroplane remix" on the hype machine give us a lot of results, which seems to indicate these duo is reaching to a nice and solid fan base. I will leave some examples of their remixes bellow. I am currently in love with what they did to Friendly Fires ft Au Revoir Simone.

I once read this sentence in a Manic Street Preachers LP and still i think about it.

Recently I discovered an amazing track by Michael Shrieve, Kevin Shrieve and Klaus Schulze. A mixture of electronic and jazz music. I found out where Lindstrom is trying to go by listening to this 80's release. I still deeply admire Lindstrom's music. However his last LP is a clear homage to Transfer Blue Station.

The new mix from Max Essa. Wonderfull selection of the not so obvious disco and balearic gems. Like the tittle suggests, this one takes us in a journey, that starts in a calm and mellow way and evolves into this kinda of psychedelic funky party, filled with crescendos and epic celebration moments. Tracks like "Lady Midnight" will make the joy of any cosmic listener, (that lead synthesizer is just beautiful).

My Little Airport, I discovered them when I was searching for Japanese bands. Turns out they are Chinese. They make simple little pop melodies, and this track is as catchy as they come. Is just a little wonder of 1 and a half minute. Enjoy.

Sometimes it just seems right to lay back and enjoy. I am going to start this series here in Cosmic Linker. Bring you music suitable for this state of mind.
First entry is this great track from Bob Marley. I am not a regular fan of reggae, but I feel this music breaks the boundaries of genre. There's just no argument about the great, beautifully calm swing of this song.
I invite everyone to comment and give their suggestions for the next Laid Back Kings, I know i have another one in mind, so I guess you should have to.

Sally gets the remix treatment

Sally's Shapiro highly acclaimed Disco Romance, now gets the remix treatment through Paper Bag's Remix Romance vol1 edition. The original tracks where a case of love at first sight to electronic revivalists. Now the remixes seem to keep the quality, with names such as Peter Lindstrom, Juan MacLean, Junior Boys...
The remix I got to listen so far, is from the Norwegian cosmic wizard, Hans Peter Lindstrom. He worked on "Time To Let Go", curiously the track from Shapiro that I liked the least. The final result? My friends, its just pure perfection. Talk about creating anticipation. This guy created a complete new melody and used only Sally Shapiro's French speech. The track starts with some super FAT analogical warm sounds, that you almost think you are in presence of a funky psychedelic all member band performing in front of you. Great mastering skills, panning sounds in a skill full way make you almost despair for the disco beat to fire up.
Thank you Peter, you've done it again.

Rui Maia Flying Disco Tape

Jean-Marc Cerrone, well known as Cerrone, was born 1952 in Paris, France. Together with Giorgio Moroder he is aimed as Europe's most important contribution of the Disco-Sound. Please do google him and be sure to buy some of his early records you find some good ones for sale at Disco Dogs.
Listen and Download the Cerrone Love Mixtape I compiled digging up some of his splendorous vinyl from the early to the late 70s that may fill your belly with butterflies or just shake up a well intended dancefloor.

In the end of 1999 Morgan Geist and Darshan Jesrani joined to become Metro Area, revolutionised House and introduced Boogie to the dance floors.
Then through a compilation named “Unclassics” they took you to their minds and made you understand that simplicity is the best policy.
On “myspace vídeos” I found a “live” that will glue you to these gentlemen’s “manoeuvres”, their taste and the culture of New York City.
You will travel back in time and picture what the atmosphere was like in Clubs such as Loft and Paradise Garage.

Chinatown Sound System - Live Mixtape

After a wonderful Carnival party down at Pitch club (if you live in Porto, its only the coolest place to go), where I went dressed as a old guy, to get used to the idea. I decided it is time to unleash the, dance floor meets cosmic disco mixtape. It was done by Chinatown Sound System a very travelled mate, who lives now in Lisbon, but seems to still be influenced by the Asian culture he got to know when he lived in Macau. The mix however is more focused in making you shake your booty all night long. A great way to make your remember all the happy dance floor nights you had, and imagine all the great, joyful times still to come.
Get used to Chinatown Sound System style, because he, along with trol2000 just became authors of the blog, in order to help me keeping this "party" going.

For me, Dj mixes that now overpopulate the web, always were a way to get to know great music and artists. This one comes filled with great discoveries, but I have to say, the best one is Patrick Cowley's Sea Hunt, I have to buy this 12" before I die. Wow cosmic disco anthem in its purest form.
My next guest, Zé runs an inspirational blog called Disco From Outer Space, where he shows us releases from the past and present, always with the spacey atmosphere in mind.
He did an amazing job, with this mix he nailed down for CL. If your game is diversity, and different eras of music, then you cant go wrong with this one. A very eclectic mixture of timeless tracks and some blinks of the eye to our contemporary years. Forget the genres barriers, this one goes way beyond cosmic. BARNA vs PORTO EP

It's one of the "Records of the Week" down at Piccadilly Records website. Very Satisfying to see a guy from Porto (Portugal) releasing such a great disco release. Its a joint venture between two cities and two artists. From Porto (Social Disco Club) delivers an outstanding mix of the track "Jabre & Bibi f. Mellow Dee - And You Dont Stop". If you know this original you'll reckon the amazing ambience SDC's mix has brought to the final product. He also gets his hands on "Glenn Adams Affair - Just A Groove" with his own edit of this track.
The Barna side catched my attention with "BSMachine & Der Beat - Jump Up Let's Go (Megamix #2)", an excellent track, filled with rhythm and groove.
Overall, this is a great release for any disco freak. But I suggest you listen to the sound samples bellow.

Hi there cosmic fellows. Today I bring you two half's. Half Metro Area, Morgan Geist, and half Junior Boys, Jeremy Greenspan. They joined together to deliver a beautiful track, named "Most Of All".
At the beginning this tune, looks like just a continuation of Junior Boy´s "So This Is Goodbye" sound. Mainly because of Greenspan's beautifully melancholic voice, but after this first moment, when Jeremy ceases to sing, Morgan Geist show us just why he´s such a sound wizard. The track evolves into an amazing ending filled with groove, funk and italo references.
Watch out you slow mo balearic freaks, run to your record dealer, because like good old goldmember used to say, "this one is a keeper".

metro area VS michael jackson

I was never good with words, but this bootleg left me speechless, which makes it even harder to describe it. What happens when you take Metro Area's Orange Alert and mix it with Michael Jackson's Bad. I tell you what you get. You get a wicked funky disco track, with an electronic twist which brings "Bad" a feel of modernity and a contemporary dance music vibe.
Who the hell thought of this. Well, it takes a funky player to put all of this together. He goes by the name of Someone, and he is a Portuguezer like myself. He´s also a DJ a forthcoming producer and the ordinary cosmic head.
Don't be shy, and get your ass over at his myspace to pay him the respect he deserves , for putting such a great bootleg together.

I once heard a music in a very missed Portuguese radio station (Voxx) that caught my attention in a obsessive way. There was no DJ announcing the name for this track, the station's computer just looped this track all day long, on and on.
One day in a music store I saw a release by "Other Records" called "Divorce" by a band called "Garçons", inside there was a track called "French Boy", the same words I have heard on and on on that radio station broadcast. Et voila, I found the music I was looking for.
This track I am sharing with you today, has a really dirty disco feel to it, and the French singing lyrics gives it a special disco flavour. Let the french boy dance, sil vous plait.
